About Stanhope Gardens
Stanhope Gardens covers approximately 189 hectares of land and was formally recognised as a suburb in 1996. The name is attributed to John Hillis who was granted about 150 acres of land in 1801 which he named Stanhope Farm. The Peel family called their dairy farm 'Stanhope Park' as such the current name Stanhope Gardens flowed from these early property names.
